• Ukraine: President Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine spoke by phone for roughly an hour, focusing on aligning the “requests and needs” of Russia and Ukraine in pursuit of a cease-fire. The call came a day after President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia agreed to temporarily halt strikes on energy infrastructure if Kyiv did the same, but not to the unconditional 30-day cease-fire that Ukraine has already agreed to, at the urging of the Trump administration.

  • Deportation flights: A federal judge has given the Trump administration more time, until midday Thursday, to provide information about flights that took migrants to El Salvador under an obscure wartime law. Judge James E. Boasberg has been trying to determine whether the government violated a court order in carrying out the removals on Saturday, and the White House’s defiance has renewed fears of a constitutional crisis.
